Draft, not yet reviewed. With our customers, Power is almost always in the building because of a single application, and that application is usually an ERP. It needs to be settled who will still be able to run the environment in five years.

## What it is

Power10 is the tenth generation of IBM's server architecture. It is not x86, and the
PowerVM hypervisor is part of the platform rather than something installed on it. AIX,
IBM i and Linux run on it.

## What it is for

Applications that require the platform: an ERP on IBM i, a database with a long history,
a system that was never ported.

As a general virtualization platform alongside an x86 estate it is the wrong choice,
because it brings a second operating model with it.

## What to watch

A Power environment runs for a long time, and the people who know it eventually retire.
So plan the succession in operations together with the refresh.
